Psychology, as a discipline that studies human behaviour in all its facets, seeks to improve people’s well-being, covering different areas and contexts of application such as education, health care, work and social services, among others.
The demand for Psychology professionals has led to the extensive development of this discipline, as well as the national and international diffusion of this degree.
The Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, part of the Health Sciences branch, provides basic university training, as well as the appropriate development of competencies within the academic, scientific and professional fields.
Suggested profile for newly enrolled students
The applicant profile for students wishing to study the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology is based on an essential aspect - an interest in Health generally and in psychological health in particular. In other words, new students should show motivation for scientific knowledge about human behaviour in all its aspects, and for the biological, cognitive, emotional and social processes that govern behaviour over the individual's lifetime.
Likewise, they must be motivated to know and learn about the possible alterations in behaviour, the reasons for them (and to predict those changes) as well as the scientific methods to evaluate and intervene, from the different fields of Psychology. Similarly, it is essential that new students be motivated to learn the methods and techniques for studying behaviour. Finally, students must be prepared to learn about the psychosocial characteristics of human behaviour, so that they can understand it from different levels of analysis, both individual and social.
In terms of their basic attitudes, it is important that students show interest in individual and group work. Being committed to improving the well-being and health of all people, respecting cultural, value-based and functional diversity.
The bachelor's degree in Psychology is part of the Health Sciences knowledge branch and, although it can be accessed via any of the existing Upper Secondary Education branches, it is worth emphasizing that the most optimal option for an adequate grounding in the basic contents required to study Psychology, is that of Nature and Health Sciences, part of the Health branch. Other options are viable for accessing the bachelor's degree, the next being the Social Sciences pathway (in the Upper Secondary qualification in Humanities and Socio-Legal Sciences).
