Important:
The fundamental objective of the bachelor's degree in Economics is to train individuals capable of analysing and interpreting the functioning of the economy, both individually and in an aggregate way, with the aim of improving the well-being of society by achieving equity and efficiency; and in general, to rigorously analyse and resolve the most relevant economic and social issues.
English Studies:
A certificate showing that the Bachelor's Degree in Economics was completed in English will be awarded to graduates who have completed at least 50% of their studies in English. In addition, this mention shall be included, where appropriate, in the European Diploma Supplement.
Such credits may be obtained:
- 1) At the University itself, taking the subjects offered in English.
The Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences will make the necessary academic offer so that the student can take at least 60 credits in English. - 2) In foreign universities that are part of the Erasmus programme, or any other student mobility programme, provided that the language of the destination university is English (regardless of the official language of the host country).
Suggested profile for newly enrolled students
The new students should be good at abstract reasoning. They should feel at ease using logic to develop simple models on the behaviour of economic agents (individuals, companies and the State), and the interaction between them.
They should also be comfortable using tools to analyse economic reality for understanding how and why economic phenomena occur. Accordingly, a strong sensitivity to social issues is of great help in addressing the study of these phenomena.
With regard to logical reasoning, the capacity to establish and describe relationships between facts, identifying the causes and assessing the consequences of the causes, is particularly valued.
In terms of abstract reasoning, the ease of separating the causes from the consequences and of extracting the most relevant aspects when dealing with a problem and its solution is particularly appreciated.
All this is enhanced if the newly-enrolled students have an entrepreneurial spirit, a mind open to new ideas and concepts, and an obvious enthusiasm for learning and applying their knowledge.
Although useful, there is no need for prior knowledge of subjects in the area of social sciences or economics, since the first two semesters of the bachelor's degree are devoted to generalist training in these two fields.
