Attention:
In the academic year 2023-24 a change is introduced in the conditions of admission of the master’s degree if the demand exceeds the number of places offered, as well as the introduction of the requirement of language level agreement of the MCERL of Spanish for non-English speaking students in the case of admission to Master’s Degree which is offered only in Spanish: "In the event that the demand exceeds the places offered, the selection criterion for the admission of students will be the average grade of the personal academic record obtained in the Bachelor's Degree or equivalent of the access degree. If the university degree granting access to the master’s degree has been obtained in an educational system whose official language is not Spanish, a knowledge of the Spanish language at level B1 must be accredited, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, before the date set for each Admission Phase. Those who can prove Spanish nationality or a Spanish speaking country will be exempt from this requirement".
The proposed degree is justified, firstly, by the need to offer a postgraduate university degree that extends and strengthens training in the field of clinical psychology and health for graduates of psychology who want to orient their professional development towards the health field.
Secondly, the Master's in General Health Psychology is relevant because of the adaptation required following the approval of various regulations governing the Master's in Health Psychology, namely:
- Law 33/2011, of 4 October, General Health, Seventh Additional Provision, BOE of 5 October.
- Agreement of the Council of Ministers of 31 May 2013, published in «the Official State Gazette» on 4 June 2013, establishing the conditions that need to be met by study programmes offering the official Master’s in General Health Psychology, enabling General Health Psychology graduates to practise as health professionals (hereafter the CM Agreement of 31 May 2013, BOE of 4 June).
- Order ECD/1070/2013, of June 12, BOE of June 14, which establishes the requirements for the verification of the official university Master's in General Health Psychology, enabling one to practise professionally as a General Health Psychologist.
Suggested profile for newly enrolled students
The degree is aimed at psychology graduates/undergraduate degree holders (4 or 5-year) who wish to specialise in applying their knowledge to the field of health psychology. People who wish to practice the health profession of General Health Psychologist, whether freelance or as an employee in the health sector, or who want to acquire better training to access the Resident In-house Psychologists (PIR) training system that entitles them to obtain the degree of Specialist Psychologist in Clinical Psychology.
For this, more specifically, these people should have an interest in the practical application of psychology in the health field and in its basic instruments: Knowledge of normal and abnormal behaviour determinants, evaluation and psycho-diagnosis, psychological intervention and treatment.
It is recommended that students can read scientific and professional texts in English with ease, and understand audio-visual material in English. They should also have computer skills at the user level.
They must also have adequate interpersonal communication skills that allow them to acquire the precise therapeutic skills needed to work professionally, whether or not this is oriented towards scientific research.
