Structure of the Degree

The Master's in Chemical Engineering will have 90 ECTS, distributed in a first year with two semesters of theoretical-practical subjects, of 30 ECTS each semester, and a third semester, also of 30 ECTS, to be studied in the second year that includes a Master's Thesis of 15 ECTS.

The subjects of the first Module, Process and Product Engineering (48 ECTS), are distributed in the following five compulsory subjects and in a set of elective subjects (of 3 ECTS each to be taught in the second semester) to be designed by each university:

  • 1. Transport phenomena (6 ECTS).
  • 2. Analysis and Advanced Design of Chemical Reactors (6 ECTS).
  • 3. Advanced Analysis and Design of Transfer Operations (6 ECTS).
  • 4. Simulation, Optimization and Control of Chemical Processes (6 ECTS).
  • 5. Process Design and Chemical Products (6 ECTS).
  • 6. Elective Subjects Set (18 ECTS).

REMARKS ON THE ELECTIVE SUBJECTS.

Elective 2nd semester
Elective Subjects
From the offer of elective subjects, 6 subjects are offered to all students of the three universities considering the lines of work and specialization of each university that are absolutely complementary. This results in the quality of the offer and enables the mobility of students between the three universities. Two subjects of each university are taught face-to-face with the use of on-line lessons. The other electives subjects are taught face-to-face at each of the universities, so students would have to go to the home university to take them.

The ELECTIVE subjects with the use of on-line lessons are:
  • Solar Powered Water Purification (UAL).
  • Process Engineering Applied to Microalgae Biotechnology (UAL).
  • Micro-organisms involved in Biofuel Manufacturing (UCA).
  • Food Biotechnological Industries (UCA).
  • Design of Material Exchange Networks for Pollution Prevention (UMA).
  • Design of Experiments in Chemical Engineering (UMA)

The subjects of the second Module, Production Management and Optimization and Sustainability (27 ECTS) are distributed in the following three compulsory subjects:

  • Companies Management and Organization (6 ECTS).
  • Integrated Management and Sustainability of Chemical Processes (9 ECTS).
  • R+D+i in Chemical Engineering (12 ECTS).

The Master's Thesis (15 ECTS) will be developed in the second year of the Master's Degree, and will be defended once the compulsory subjects of the theoretical-practical module have been successfully passed.

It is considered the carrying out of a compulsory training internships in the company and/or Research Centre, with 9 ECTS, that will be held on a compulsory basis and will be counted within the compulsory subject of R+D+i in Chemical Engineering. Students may choose one of the options or both of them.
