Structure of the Degree

  • Module 1: BASIC TRAINING.
  • Module 2: HISTORICAL FOUNDATIONS AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS.
  • Module 3: LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION.
  • Module 4: CULTURAL MANIFESTATIONS.
  • Module 5: LANDSCAPE AND TERRITORY SCIENCES.
  • Module 6: SOCIETY AND THOUGHT SCIENCES.
  • Module 7: ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE.
  • Module 8: DEGREE CONTEXTS, PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND UNDERGRADUATE DISSERTATION.

Time planning chart of the modules:

  • BASIC TRAINING (60 ECTS).

Basic Training (60 ECTS) is taught between the first and second year and, once it is completed, allows registering in other Degree included in the Arts and Humanities Branch (currently, English Studies, History and Humanities). A second language (12 ECTS) must be offered to be developed in the core training in compliance with an Andalusian agreement.

  • CORE TRAINING (162 ECTS).

It is a requirement in the Andalusian Autonomous Region that the Degree in Humanities has the Advanced Modern Language Module (12 ECTS in the same language as in Basic Training), Historical Foundations and Critical Analysis, Language and Communication, Landscape and Territory Sciences, Society and Thought Sciences, and Cultural Manifestations.

  • DEGREE CONTEXTS, PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND UNDERGRADUATE DISSERTATION (18 ECTS).

Overall, it composes a 18 ECTS cycle in which the elective courses, the work placements (or an alternative course) and the undergraduate dissertation must be taken.

  • REMARKS ABOUT MODERN LANGUAGES.
Modern Languages
  • One of the languages offered by the degree programmes of the Faculty of Humanities must be chosen. The degree provides for that the completion of the 24 ECTS cycle comprising the subjects of MODERN LANGUAGE AND ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE allows to reach a maximum instrumental command equivalent to B2+ of the European Framework.

  • Students must take, to obtain the degree, a full language throughout the four years, but if they wish, can take more than one language, taking into account that such language can be:

  • German: German I, German II, German III and German IV.
    Arabic: Arabic I, Arabic II, Arabic III and Arabic IV.
    French: French I, French II, French III, French IV.
    English: English I, English II, English III and English for academic purposes.

  • Although students want to take more than one language, it is suggested that they should choose the same language both semesters, due to language courses have prerequisites.

Compulsory 4th year
Compulsory Courses
4th year students must take one of the two following compulsory courses:
  • Classical Tradition in English Literature: Gender Reception or
  • Classical Tradition in English Literature: Theatre Reception.
4th year elective
Elective courses
4th year students must take 6 elective credits and they can choose between the two elective courses offered:
  • Cinema, Society and Culture or
  • Democracy in Western World: Building Processes.
