Attention: This Master is a new version that is currently being verified.
The new curriculum will be implemented in the 2021-22 academic year. The main difference is that the current version of the master's degree will change from presential to semi-presential.
In addition, the adaptation between versions will be automatic and will not prejudice or undermine the rights and guarantees of the current student.
You can access the previous version of this Master via the following link or through the Master's homepage.
Important:
The Master’s “in Sustainable Local Development and Co-Development” aims to meet societal needs, repeatedly requested by individuals and institutions, which demands professionals with the appropriate training, who can promote development in its most diverse facets.
This training must combine multiple knowledge areas —anthropology, economics, law, geography, and the environment,— etc., allowing students who complete the Master's Degree to work professionally and efficiency.
From the academic, scientific and professional perspectives, the Master’s addresses current perennial aspects concerning the development of people and peoples:
- Local development and co-development in its many aspects: rural and urban, inland and coastal… studying the different models and their peculiar characteristics (industrial districts, local production systems, and local development plans…).
- Cooperation in development and population migration, given that many of these movements are caused by poverty and the low living standard in the place of origin, or by wars and social instability, which, in most cases, are the cause of underdevelopment. Development cooperation and training of people from other places, which then promotes socio-economic development in their countries of origin; this is vital for improving the standard of living in many areas that are presently pockets of poverty and immigration.
- Sustainability, which involves development plans making rational use of resources, respecting the environment and not mortgaging the development of future generations. At the same time, being viable from the economic standpoint.
Suggested profile for newly enrolled students
The interdisciplinary nature of the topics covered by the master's degree give it a uniqueness that encompasses countless disciplines in the university and labour fields. The recommended academic and personal entry profile would be, on the one hand, university graduates who are working in companies or institutions in local development and, on the other, graduates of degrees from the Social Sciences branch related to local development, co-development and sustainability, such as Economics, Business Administration, Tourism, Geography, Law, Labour Relations, Public Administrations, Environment, Sociology, as well as Agricultural Engineers and Agricultural Technical Engineers.
The potential student for this master's degree would have to be a dynamic, communicative, enterprising, responsible and proactive person with the ability to manage and invigorate material and human teams. Similarly, they must have the capacity to impart training, having knowledge of business management and resource utilization.
