Objectives

The main objective of the Master's Degree is to provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of agrifood activity management, so that they are able to understand the organization as a whole and to tackle the new challenges arising in the context of the food chain: from food production to marketing and finance, the legal and economic relationships between the main and auxiliary business fabric that have evolved in the South-east of Spain, and which affects the intensive, competitive agriculture existing here, a leading European fruit and vegetable production region.

At the end of the Master's Degree in Agrifood Activity Management, the students will have a comprehensive insight, from greenhouse production, through the value chain, right up to the consumer. This will provide them with:

  • Comprehensive management training allowing them to understand how the organization functions as a whole and to deal with management duties in a changing global environment.
  • A complete view of the agrifood value chain so as to understand the existing interrelationships and their impact on the business environment.
  • The most innovative techniques and tools for business management and the technologies to support business decision-making.
  • The managerial skills that are key to success.
  • Global strategic insight and a forward-thinking attitude to address business issues and challenges.
  • Best business practices to implement throughout the value chain and the emerging trends in agrifood at the national and international levels.
  • A valuable network of contacts.

These goals will be developed respecting (a) fundamental rights and gender equality, (b) human rights and the principles of universal accessibility and design for all, and (c) the values of a peaceful and democratic culture.

 

Competencies

Competencies are the identifiable and evaluable set of knowledge, attitudes, values, abilities and skills, related to each other, which will allow the student to exercise the professional activity according to the requirements and standards used in the corresponding occupational area.

All the master’s at the University of Almeria explicitly include two types of competencies:

  • The generic competencies included in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, which establishes the organization of official higher education.
  • The specific degree competencies. These competencies are detailed in the degree’s report and are related to its particular subjects. Some of these competencies may have been agreed at the Andalusian regional level, or for certain degrees, they may be regulated at the state level.

Basic, General and Cross-Curricular Competencies

The basic competencies for all master’s degrees were defined in R.D. 1393/2007 of 29 October. They will be progressively adapted and as established by the current R.D. 822/2021 of 28 September, which establishes the organization of university education and the quality assurance procedure.

General competencies for all master's degrees
CB6-To possess and understand knowledge That students have demonstrated they possess and understand knowledge that expands and improves on that associated with the first cycle, providing them a basis or opportunity for originality in developing and/or applying ideas, often in a research context.
CB7-Application of knowledge That students know how to apply the knowledge gained and are capable of problem-solving in new or unexplored settings within broader (or multi-disciplinary) contexts relating to their field of study.
CB8-Ability to make judgements That students can integrate knowledge and face the complexity of making judgements based on incomplete information which, being incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to applying their knowledge and judgements.
CB9-Communication capacity and social aptitude That students know how to communicate their conclusions –and the ultimate knowledge and reasons that support them– to both specialized and non-specialized audiences in a clear and unambiguous manner.
CB10-Learning skills That students possess the learning skills that will enable them to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous.
